Mio Sota, recognized as 2017 North American Hairstylist of the Year, is modest when it comes to discussing her work. Her passion is focusing on haircutting, hair art/competitions, educating and empowering others. Frequently she is found working tirelessly behind the scenes, but that’s because the bold images she creates and dynamic haircuts speak for themselves.
One of the most prominent stylists in Chicago and working behind the chair as a top stylist at TRIO Salon, her work have appeared on the covers of Estetica Magazine, Modern Salon, Hairdressers Journal, and many other international trade magazines. Mio works with celebrities and Chicago’s affluent high-end clientele, while truly valuing all of her clients, so often showing her appreciation through social media, being thankful for her regular clients and every new person she meets.

Within her fourteen year career in the beauty industry, she specializes in haircutting, stemming from her extensive cutting training and her nine years working behind the chair and educating at Vidal Sassoon salon and academy in Chicago. She now educates for Goldwell US, offering hands-on workshops and seminars for aspiring stylists. This year she has expanded her color experience by winning Gold in the Partner Category and global recognition for Goldwell Colorzoom 2017, and international color competition.
What makes Mio a phenomenal hair artist is not only her precision technical ability, but her fun, caring and personable relationship with all of her clients and team. Even when she’s not in the salon, Mio balances creativity and fun—from slinging drinks behind the bar, to being a co-host of an improv comedy show, to going for a ride on her motorcycle.
